Admission Requirements
Academic Requirements
You need the following GPA score:
Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).
Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).
To be eligible for admission, prospective students must meet the following requirements:
- Alabama Class B certification or equivalent
- Two full years of K-12 classroom teaching experience
- Complete the Supplement EXP form to verify two full years of teaching experience.
- Completion of two reading courses (may be undergraduate courses; one course must be a foundations of reading course; the other course must be about the teaching of reading, i.e., introduction to reading, reading methods, content area reading)
- A minimum of 300 on the combined verbal and quantitative sections of the revised GRE (a score of 1000 if taken prior to August 2011) or a score no lower than the 50th percentile on the MAT
- An overall undergraduate GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or a 3.0 average for the last 60 semester hours in a degree program

- Three letters of recommendation that describe teaching ability and potential for leadership in literacy instruction
- Participation in the interview process
