Admission Requirements
Academic Requirements
- Rutgers-Newark Graduate School Application Application (fee: $65) must be completed online, however you will need to mail three (3) hard copies of the writing sample, personal statement and resume to the Graduate Admissions office (address belows) When applying online, please make sure to select the Rutgers-Newark MFA Program: all applications, writing samples, and additional documents must be addressed to the Rutgers-Newark Admissions office (see below) in order to be considered for admission.
- GRE Test Scores (for teaching-based aid packages) GRE scores are strongly encouraged, but not required for admission. However, if you are applying for an aid package that includes teaching (Teaching Assistantship or Part-Time Lecturer), GRE scores are required.
- Writing Sample (3 Hard Copies) Please apply in one genre only: Fiction or Poetry. We do not currently offer workshops for writers of Romance, Fantasy, Young Adult, Science Fiction, or Non-Fiction, but we welcome applications from writers in these genres who wish to transition into writing literary work.
