Admission Requirements

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: 3

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

Minimum Admission Requirements

  • An undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale;
  • An acceptable GRE or MAT score (see application policy);
  • Class B Professional Educator Certificate in a teaching field or Class A Professional Educator Certificate in a teaching field or instructional support area;
  • A minimum of three full years of full-time, acceptable professional educational experience in a P-12 setting, which must include at least one full year of full-time P-12 teaching experience;
  • The submission of a portfolio before participation in the assessment process which will include an interview;
  • Provision for a writing sample in sit-down format; and a review by the program admission committee. See due date below.
In addition to the general application materials required by the University of Alabama Graduate School and the Department of Educational Leadership, Policy & Technology Studies, applicants must construct an application portfolio.The application portfolio must contain the following items:
  • Three letters of recommendation, including one from the applicant\xc2\x92s principal or supervisor;
  • Completed copy (all forms) of most recent performance appraisal to include the professional development component if available;
  • Evidence of ability to improve student achievement;
  • Evidence of leadership and management potential including evidence of most recent accomplishments in the area of educational leadership;
  • Summary statement of applicant\xc2\x92s reasons for pursuing instructional leadership certification;
  • Summary statement of what the applicant expects from the program; and,
  • The applicant\xc2\x92s vitae.
