Program Curriculum
Course Structure
- 18 credit hours are required to complete the Graduate Certificate in Information Systems. All certificate requirements must be completed within 3 years.
- There are no required courses as part of the certificate requirements. Students may take any graduate level IS course at the David Eccles School of Business to meet credit requirements (listed as IS or OIS in the course catalog). Courses offered outside the OIS department may be eligible but require program director approval.
- Certificate credits can cross-count towards graduate degree program requirements.
- University of Utah / School of Business graduate tuition rates apply.
- Full resident tuition for 18 credits (6 credits a semester for 3 semesters) is estimated at $17,300 or $16,200 (9 credits a semester for 2 semesters) for the 2014 academic year.

- Certificate students may start the program in fall, spring or summer semester.
- The certificate is open to current students as well as those not currently in a degree program; see below for more information on how to apply as a non-matriculated student.
- Certificate students can transfer up to 9 credits into the MSIS program.
- An undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 is required for admission into the certificate program.
- Grades and credits appear on an official transcript.
- The certificate appears on an official university transcript.
- A 3.0 cumulative GPA in certificate courses is required for successful completion of the certificate.
Admission Requirements
Academic Requirements
You need the following GPA score:
Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).
Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).
An applicant for admission to The Graduate School must meet the following minimum requirements:
- An undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0, based on all undergraduate work. If the undergraduate GPA is below 3.0, a GPA will be calculated on the last 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of the undergraduate work for admission consideration;
- A bachelor\xc2\x92s degree from a regionally accredited college or university;
- Meeting the academic department\xc2\x92s admission standards, and receiving a recommendation for admission to their graduate program.
Departments and colleges may establish additional criteria for admission in accordance with the general guidelines established by The Graduate School.
The Graduate Council establishes policies and procedures governing graduate study in accordance with faculty regulations. Directors of Graduate Studies administer graduate programs in the various departments. The council supervises degree requirements for the following academic and professional degrees.
