Academic Requirements

The following is an overview of how the application and visa process works.

  • Submit an online or paper application to our office.\xc2\xa0
  • Have a short interview through Skype with the ESL director
  • Within 2 days after your interview, you should receive your official acceptance letter from us by email.
  • Pay your deposit.
  • If you require a student visa to come to the United States, you need to get a passport from your home country. Then you will work with our International Student Advisor to obtain an I-20 form.
  • Once you receive your I-20, pay your SEVIS fee of $200 and receive your I-901 form, which is your receipt.
  • Schedule your visa interview at your nearest embassy or consulate, pay your visa interview fee of $160, and receive your receipt.
  • Gather all paperwork and supporting documents for your interview.
  • Go to your visa interview. Good luck!
  • Receive your visa.
  • Make your travel and housing arrangements.
  • Come to Monterey!

Our intensive program generally requires that students be at least 18 years of age. The Summer Intensive Language Program will occasionally admit students between the ages of 16 to 18. Participants under the age of 18 must provide proof that they are in custody of a legal guardian living in the local area. Under-age participants are also required to submit two letters of recommendation from teachers or advisers that attest to their fitness for intensive language study. All applicants under 18 will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

In addition to the requirement above, international students must also submit a recent TOEFL or IELTS score (within the last two years) of a minimum of 80 or 6.5, respectively.\xc2\xa0

The program provides students with F-1 or J-1 I-20s and visa support. All international students must have a valid F-1 or J-1 visa to study.
