Admission Requirements

International applicants must meet the same academic criteria as U.S. applicants:

  • Bachelor degree (or higher) or the equivalent from an accredited/government recognized college or university. Most such degrees will be four or more years in length; UB recognizes some three-year degrees, but not all.
  • B average or higher from your Bachelor degree (or equivalent) courses. Grade point averages from non-US universities will be evaluated by the University at Buffalo Office of International Admissions.
Completed undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university.Thirty-six hours in music at the undergraduate level, with 4 semesters in Music Theory, and two semesters each in Music History and Conducting.Demonstrated performance proficiency by audition or course work as follows:
  • Major instrument or voice (at NYSSMA grade 6 level)
  • Keyboard (functional skills such as vocal score reduction and accompaniment improvisation)
  • Secondary instruments (at NYSSMA grade 2 level):
  • Instrumental emphasis - seven instruments
  • Choral emphasis - three instruments

English Proficiency: IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
