Admission Requirements
Academic Requirements
You need the following GPA score:
Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).
Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).
Three Letters of recommendation. The letters of recommendation should be written by people familiar with your academic interests and abilities, preferably faculty in philosophy. 2. Writing Sample. The writing sample should be a philosophy paper that exhibits your ability to develop an extended argument, to write clear and literate prose, and to have an original and well-motivated philosophical response to one or more important philosophical texts or problems.3. Written personal statement. The personal statement should describe your reasons for pursuing graduate study in philosophy, your range of interests, and other relevant information. It should, if possible, list possible specific research interests, and faculty that you may be interested in working with toward the PhD.
An applicant for admission to The Graduate School must meet the following minimum requirements:
- An undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0, based on all undergraduate work. If the undergraduate GPA is below 3.0, a GPA will be calculated on the last 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of the undergraduate work for admission consideration;
- A bachelor\xc2\x92s degree from a regionally accredited college or university;
- Meeting the academic department\xc2\x92s admission standards, and receiving a recommendation for admission to their graduate program.
Departments and colleges may establish additional criteria for admission in accordance with the general guidelines established by The Graduate School.
The Graduate Council establishes policies and procedures governing graduate study in accordance with faculty regulations. Directors of Graduate Studies administer graduate programs in the various departments. The council supervises degree requirements for the following academic and professional degrees.
