Admission Requirements

Academic Requirements

Normally you need a good 2:2 degree or above (or international equivalent degree) in architecture or architectural technology. We also welcome applications from graduates from construction, engineering and environmental undergraduate courses. Consideration is also given to those without prior university qualifications who have at least five years of relevant professional experience.

All applications should ideally be accompanied with a digital portfolio. Please refer to the guidance notes below. Where it is difficult to provide a portfolio we will invite you to an interview to discuss your application.

You need a high level of English language competence to successfully complete the course. If you are a non-native speaker of English, you typically need IELTS 6.0 and no component (listening, reading, writing and speaking) below 5.5.

If your English language skill is currently below IELTS 6.0 or equivalent we recommend you consider a Sheffield Hallam University Pre-sessional English course which will enable you to achieve an equivalent English score.

Portfolio guidance notes

In addition to a completed form all applicants are invited to submit a digital portfolio of university and/or professional projects to help us consider your application.

We receive applications from a wide range of applicants so expect to see a wide range of portfolios. Architectural design work is normally included but is not essential if you have not studied or worked in architecture previously. The important thing is to demonstrate your best key skills and experiences suited to this course.

A portfolio can include

\xc2\x95 architectural design project work carried out at university or college
\xc2\x95 selections of work from case studies and reports from academic modules in courses related to construction, environment or engineering
\xc2\x95 projects from professional experience in the architectural or construction sector

Detailed portfolio information can include

\xc2\x95 technical and structural drawings
\xc2\x95 CAD, visualisation and IT skills
\xc2\x95 involvement in real life or built projects related to construction or the environment

Submission

\xc2\x95 Portfolios should be submitted with the application form in digital format.
\xc2\x95 The preferred format is PDF, with overall file sizes not exceeding 30MB.
\xc2\x95 The portfolio content should be carefully selected, edited, and in the region of 10 pages.
\xc2\x95 The work should be titled but does not have to be explained in writing.
