Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

  • The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is required of all applicants.
  • Two (2) recommendations required for all other applicants. If possible, one recommendation should be from your advisor at the institution from which you earned your highest degree.
  • Transcripts are required from all colleges and universities attended, whether or not credit was earned, the program was completed, or the credit appears as transfer credit on another transcript. Unofficial transcripts from all colleges and universities attended must be uploaded to your online application. Official transcripts are required only of applicants who are offered admission.
  • Statement of purpose:In an essay of 250 to 500 words, state your purpose in undertaking graduate study at The George Washington University; describe your academic objectives, research interests, and career plans; and discuss your related qualifications, including collegiate, professional, and community activities, and any other substantial accomplishments not already mentioned.
  • Additional requirements: Bachelor\'s degree with a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for the last 60 hours of coursework. Applicants must hold a bachelor\'s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or computer science and be adequately prepared in the basic physical sciences and in mathematics. Students with a bachelor\'s degree in another field and a basic knowledge of (a) mathematics and (b) electrical engineering, computer engineering, or computer science may be admitted, with a set of deficiency courses to be determined by the student\'s advisor. All applicants must submit a resum\xc3\xa9 or CV.
