Admission Requirements
Academic Requirements
Applicants must upload the following items to the on-line application. All materials for the MFA in Writing must be submitted online. Any materials sent by mail will not be considered. All materials, including letters of recommendation, must be submitted by December 1, 2015 at 11:59pm EST, or the application will be incomplete and will not be reviewed by the admissions committee:
- Resum\xc3\xa9: A document that highlights your education, creative endeavors, activities, travel, relevant employment and service work as they apply to your aspirations as a filmmaker (no longer than 3 pages).
- Three Letters of Recommendation: Letters may come from any combination of academic and professional references. Personal recommendations will not be accepted. Letters of recommendation must be received by the application deadline of December 1, 2015 at 11:59pm EST. The application system will not send emails to your recommenders until the application has been fully submitted.
- Statement of Purpose: The statement of purpose is really the \xc2\x93story of you\xc2\x94, describing how your past and current life experiences have motivated you to pursue a career in the filmmaking industry. The statement of purpose should be no more than 1000 words in length.
- Writing Sample 1: A two-page non-dialogue scene about a person trying to kill a spider in his/her home. The scene should be considered the opening for a screenplay or theatrical work. Writing samples should be typed in 12-point Courier in standard play or screenplay format. Include a cover page with your name and the writing sample number.
- Writing Sample 2: A three-page dialogue scene about a person trying to return an item to a store. The scene should be considered the opening for a screenplay or theatrical work. Writing samples should be typed in 12-point Courier in standard play or screenplay format. Include a cover page with your name and the writing sample number.
- Writing Sample 3: A sample of original creative work, such as a short story, short play or screenplay of up to 5 pages. Writing samples should be typed in 12-point Courier and, when applicable, in standard play or screenplay format. Include a cover page with your name and the writing sample number.
- Unofficial Transcript(s): Provide an unofficial scanned copy of your most recent transcript(s) indicating all college-level work. In addition, domestic applicants must complete and upload the self-reported undergraduate GPA computation worksheet. The worksheet is located at: http://admissions.fsu.edu/images/pdf/gpacompworksheet.pdf.
English Proficiency: IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
