The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) offers a Bachelor of Arts in Ancient Studies, focusing on the civilizations of Ancient Greece and Rome. The program provides an interdisciplinary education encompassing archaeology, history, languages, literature, and culture.
Program Structure:
The major comprises four components:

Core Requirements:
- Ancient Studies: Choose between ANCS 201 (The Ancient Greeks) or ANCS 202 (The Roman World).
- Archaeology: Select either ARCH 200 (Greek Archaeology) or ARCH 201 (Roman Archaeology).
- History: Enroll in one of the following: ANCS/HIST 453 (Ancient Greece), ANCS/HIST 455 (The Roman Republic), or ANCS/HIST 456 (The Roman Empire).
- Language: Complete courses in Greek (GREK) or Latin (LATN) through one of two options:
- Option 1: Study GREK or LATN up to the 300 level or above.
- Option 2: Study GREK or LATN up to the 200 level, plus two additional courses in ANCS, ARCH, ANCS/HIST, GREK, or LATN taught by an Ancient Studies instructor.

Open-Level Electives:
- Three courses (9-12 credits) at any level from the department's offerings.

Advanced-Level Electives:
- Three courses (9-12 credits) at the 300 level or above from the department's offerings.
Additional Notes:
- All courses applied to the major require a minimum grade of "C."
- Students are encouraged to study both Greek and Latin to the highest levels, especially those considering graduate studies.
- For those planning to teach Latin, five LATN courses at the 300 level or above, each with a grade of "A" or "B," are recommended.
