The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Multidisciplinary Studies (MDST) at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) offers a flexible academic pathway for students aiming to integrate multiple disciplines into a cohesive educational experience. This program is particularly beneficial for those who have faced challenges in completing a traditional degree path or have previously exited UMBC without graduating.

Program Highlights:

• Customized Curriculum: Students collaborate with INDS advisors to design a curriculum that aligns with their unique academic and career aspirations, integrating courses from various fields.

• Degree Requirements:

  • B.A. in Multidisciplinary Studies:
    • Complete the MDST core curriculum.
    • At least 42 credits at the 200-level or above.
    • No more than 21 credits from a single discipline.
    • Limit of four transfer courses.
    • No more than three courses overlapping with another major's requirements.
  • B.S. in Multidisciplinary Studies:
    • All B.A. requirements.
    • 30 credits in math, science, engineering, or technology, with 15 credits at the 300- or 400-level.

• Capstone Project: Students undertake a capstone research project, culminating in an oral presentation, to synthesize their interdisciplinary learning.

• Departmental Honors: Achievable by maintaining a minimum 3.5 GPA and completing designated honors courses (INDS 330H or INDS 430H, and INDS 490H).
