The Master of Science (MS) in Forensic Medicine at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) is a full-time, non-thesis graduate program designed to prepare students for careers in forensic medicine. Over 18 months, students engage in a hybrid learning format that includes classroom and online lectures, case discussions, and laboratory training. The curriculum covers key areas such as forensic pathology, general pathology, forensic autopsy, medico-legal death investigation, forensic toxicology, forensic radiology, forensic odontology, and forensic anthropology.
A unique feature of the program is its collaboration with the Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, providing students the opportunity to study in one of the nation's premier medical examination facilities under the guidance of licensed and board-certified forensic pathologists.
Graduates are equipped for various roles, including medicolegal death investigation, forensic toxicology, positions within police organizations, crime labs, prosecutors’ offices, and academic departments of forensic sciences. The program also serves as a strong foundation for those aiming to attend medical school with a specialization in forensic pathology.
Additionally, UMB offers a dual degree option in partnership with the China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL), allowing students to earn both an MS from UMB and a Juris Master's from CUPL.
The program requires the completion of 30 credits. For Maryland residents, the cost per credit hour is $783, while out-of-state students pay $1,353 per credit hour.
Application deadlines are February 15 for international students and May 1 for domestic students, with the program commencing in the fall.
