The Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) Dual Degree Programs at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry (UMSOD) are designed to cultivate clinician-scientists proficient in both clinical practice and research. These programs integrate dental education with advanced degrees in clinical research, public health, or biomedical sciences, preparing graduates to address complex oral health challenges.
Available Dual Degree Programs:

DDS/Master's Programs:
- Degrees Offered: DDS combined with either a Master of Science in Clinical Research (MSCR) or a Master of Public Health (MPH).
- Program Duration: Approximately 5 years.
- Objective: Equip students with expertise in clinical research methodologies or public health principles alongside dental training.
- Application Process: Applicants must first gain admission to the DDS program. Interested candidates should complete an online pre-application form. Outstanding applicants will be invited to submit a second application during the first two years of dental school.

DDS/PhD Program:
- Degrees Offered: DDS and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).
- Program Duration: Approximately 7 to 8 years.
- Objective: Develop clinician-scientists capable of conducting independent research and contributing to academic dentistry.
- Application Process: Similar to the DDS/Master's programs, candidates must first be admitted to the DDS program and complete a pre-application form. Outstanding applicants will be invited to submit a second application during the first two years of dental school.
