The Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) program at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry (UMSOD) offers advanced training beyond predoctoral dental education, utilizing cutting-edge technology and evidence-based dentistry. Program Options:

One-Year AEGD Program:
- Objective: Enhance residents' scientific knowledge and clinical skills in general dentistry.
- Training: Provides experience in emergency and multidisciplinary comprehensive oral health care, patient-focused care, health promotion, and disease prevention.
- Practice Management: Emphasizes patient and practice management, quality improvement, and functioning within interdisciplinary health care teams.

Two-Year AEGD Program:
- Objective: Expands on the one-year program, offering advanced clinical experience and opportunities for specialization.
- Advanced Training: Includes managing complex comprehensive dental care, improving clinic management skills, and pursuing individual concentrations (e.g., temporomandibular disorders, public health dentistry).
- Academic Opportunities: Provides an interdisciplinary graduate foundation in biological and clinical sciences, with options to gain teaching experience, conduct original research, and earn a Master of Science degree.
Program Goals:
- Primary Care Provider: Prepare graduates to act as primary care providers, delivering emergency and comprehensive oral health care.
- Multidisciplinary Care: Equip residents to plan and provide care for a diverse patient population, including those with special needs.
- Practice Management: Develop skills in managing oral health care delivery, applying concepts of patient and practice management responsive to a dynamic health care environment.

Application Requirements:
- PASS Application: Submit through the Postdoctoral Application Support Service (PASS).
- Evaluations: Provide an institutional evaluation and two professional evaluations.
- Transcripts: Official dental school transcript and undergraduate transcripts.
- National Board Scores: Submit Integrated National Dental Boards or National Board Scores Part I.
- Additional for International Applicants:
- Credential Evaluation: Official ECE or WES course-by-course evaluation of foreign transcripts.
- English Proficiency: Minimum TOEFL score of 80 iBT or IELTS score of 7.
- Financial Documents: Proof of financial responsibility if accepted.
