Admission Requirements

Denver College of Nursing offers several nursing programs, each with specific admission requirements. Below are the general requirements for the main programs offered:

Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) Program:

  1. Educational Prerequisites:

    • Completion of prerequisite general education courses with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.
    • Courses such as Anatomy & Physiology, Microbiology, Nutrition, English Composition, General Psychology, and others are required.
  2. Entrance Exam:

    • Applicants without a prior bachelor’s degree are required to take the HESI A2 entrance exam and achieve a minimum score of 75%. Applicants with a bachelor's degree are exempt.
  3. Personal Statement:

    • A one-page personal statement outlining your professional goals, healthcare work experience, and volunteer activities is required.
  4. Transcripts:

    • Submission of official transcripts from all post-secondary educational institutions attended.
  5. Interview:

    • Selected applicants will be contacted for an admissions interview to discuss their goals and readiness for the program.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program:

  1. General Education Prerequisites:

    • Completion of at least 56 semester credits of post-secondary coursework, including specific prerequisite courses such as Anatomy & Physiology, Microbiology, Human Growth & Development, Nutrition, and Statistics.
  2. Cumulative GPA:

    • A minimum GPA of 2.0 is required for all prerequisite coursework, with grades of 'C' or better (C- or below are not acceptable).
  3. Entrance Exam:

    • The HESI A2 entrance exam is required for applicants without a previous bachelor’s degree. A score of at least 75% is required in specific sections.
  4. Licensure (for RN to BSN Applicants):

    • Applicants for the RN to BSN program must hold an unencumbered RN license.
  5. Transcripts and Personal Statement:

    • Official transcripts from prior institutions and a one-page personal statement are required.

Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) Program:

  1. Nursing License:

    • A current, unencumbered RN license.
  2. Educational Background:

    • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution.
  3. GPA Requirement:

    • A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 for the BSN program.
  4. Professional Statement:

    • A personal statement explaining career goals, reasons for pursuing the MSN degree, and relevant nursing experience.
  5. Transcripts:

    • Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended.

Common Requirements Across All Programs:

  1. Immunizations and Health Records:

    • Submission of current immunization records and proof of health insurance coverage.
  2. Background Check:

    • Successful completion of a background check and drug screening is required prior to beginning the program.
  3. CPR Certification:

    • Current CPR certification is required for enrollment.
  4. Application Fee:

    • A non-refundable application fee of $100 is required for all programs.
  5. Application Deadlines:

    • Applications are accepted based on the intended start term, with typical deadlines being:
      • January Start: Deadline is July 1 (of the previous year).
      • April Start: Deadline is October 1 (of the previous year).
      • July Start: Deadline is January 1 (of the same year).
      • October Start: Deadline is April 1 (of the same year).
