Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (Institut de Hautes Études Internationales et du Développement — IHEID) is a prestigious graduate-level research university in Geneva, Switzerland, with roots dating back to the 1920s and officially formed in its modern structure through the merger of two institutes focused on international relations and development. Located in the heart of International Geneva near the United Nations and major global organisations, it is dedicated to the study of international affairs, development studies, international law, economics, history, anthropology and political science through master’s and PhD programs that emphasize critical thinking, interdisciplinary research and global engagement. The Institute has a selective, cosmopolitan community of approximately 1,300 students from 100+ countries and more than 80 faculty members, and it engages deeply with international institutions, NGOs and governments to prepare future leaders and researchers in global governance and development.
