University of Tokyo (東京大学, The University of Tokyo / UTokyo) is Japan’s oldest and most prestigious public research university, founded in 1877 and consistently ranked among Asia’s top institutions. It serves a large and diverse academic community of approximately 28,000–29,000 students (roughly evenly split between undergraduate and graduate studies), with around 4,000–5,000 international students from over 100 countries. The university’s academic structure includes 10 faculties and 15 graduate schools, covering a comprehensive range of disciplines such as engineering, natural sciences, law, economics, medicine, humanities, education, agricultural and life sciences, and public policy, along with multiple affiliated research institutes.
