Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: 3

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

Submit These Materials
  1. University of Cincinnati Application for Graduate Admission - including $65.00 fee, with an additional $5.00 fee for international applicants. The application must be submitted electronically at http://grad.uc.edu/admissions.html, under \'Graduate Application\'.
  2. Three References - References should come from a combination of individuals (e.g. managers, professors, volunteer coordinators, etc.) who can attest to your academic and professional skills. Be certain to inform persons who provide recommendations of the deadline for receipt of credentials. You will provide the name and contact information for those whom you choose to recommend you on the University of Cincinnati Application for Graduate Admission.

  4. Within the online University of Cincinnati Application for Graduate Admission, you will provide the name and contact information for those whom you choose to recommend you for the program. The University will contact each recommender to solicit their recommendation.
  5. Official transcripts
  6. Transcripts should verify: A baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution, and a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale for the last degree earned. (A comparable level of achievement is expected for other grading systems.)
  7. Transcripts must be received from your college in a sealed envelope. Your transcript(s) can be mailed to you and forwarded to the Graduate School. Please request that all of your transcripts be sent to you; do not open the envelope, and forward them all together in one mailer. If you completed coursework at the University of Cincinnati prior to Fall 1999, you must request an official copy of your transcript through the Office of the Registrar. Any coursework completed at UC after 1999 will not require a transcript. Please note: International transcripts must be evaluated by World Education Services (WES).

  9. Goal Statement - Discuss why you wish to transition to a career in nursing, identify how your academic, professional and volunteer experiences thus far make you a unique candidate for this program, and explain the role of a nurse as you understand it.
  10. Graduate Record Exam Score (GRE) - This examination provides important information concerning aptitude for graduate study. Substantial review is recommended for proper preparation. Please note that GRE scores must be less than (5) years old at the time of application and must be forwarded to the College by the Educational Testing Service. Test prep books for the GRE can be purchased at most bookstores The GRE is waived for those who already hold an advance degree (i.e. masters or doctoral).

Interview
If the Director of the Accelerated Pathway requires additional information after initial review of your application, you may be contacted for an interview. If distance makes an on-site interview impractical, a telephone interview can be arranged.
Review Process/Admission Decision
The Student Affairs Council, a committee that meets monthly to consider applicants, determines the final admission decision. Decisions are based on the entirety of the application, along with the interview, if applicable. Successful applicants will be e-mailed an acceptance packet, which must be completed and returned by the date indicated in the packet.
