Academic Requirements
- The minimum undergraduate GPA for admission to our MS program is 3.0 and 3.25 for admission to our Ph.D. program directly after bachelor\'s degree.
- GRE score is required for all Ph.D. applicants and MS applicants (only if BS degree was obtained from a non-US institute). We do not have any minimum GRE score requirement for admission into our program. However, a good GRE score is very important for admission into our graduate program. The average GRE score of students admitted to our graduate program is approximately 311 (GRE V+Q) in last three years and most funded students are substantially higher.
- International applicants may be required to provide proof of English proficiency via TOEFL, IELTS or PTE. The exam results must be dated within 2 years from your proposed date of admission and remain valid upon entering the term you applied for. The University at Buffalo has a minimum TOEFL score requirement of 550 (paper-based) or 79 (internet-based). On IELTS, UB requires an overall score of 6.5 with no band below 6.0. A minimum PTE Academic score of 55 will be required with no individual section sub-score below 50.
- Your statement of purpose essay should clearly state your career goals, research interests, and name of at least three faculty members with whom you want to work with. Tell us how you will fund your studies and whether you will attend if financial assistance is not available.
