["Founded in 1982, the Africana Women\'s Studies (AWS) Program is the only degree-granting women\'s studies program located in a historically black college in the United States, the only women\'s studies program in the United States which offers the doctoral degree in Africana Women\'s Studies and the only Africana Women\'s Studies program in the world.", \'AWS provides opportunities for the systematic analysis of the convergence of gender, class and racial bias.\', \'It also focuses on the comparative examination of the contributions, problems, strategies and concerns of women throughout the African disapora.\']

Academic Requirements

Before any action can be taken on an application, applicants must submit the following to the Director of Student Recruitment and Admissions:

  • Completed and signed application.
  • Cashier\xc2\x92s check or money order (made payable to Clark Atlanta University) in the amount of $40. The application fee for an international applicant is $55 U.S. dollars. The application fee will not be waived and is non-refundable.
  • An official transcript from each undergraduate and graduate institution you have attended. Transcripts must be sent directly to the Office of Graduate Admissions from the institution\xc2\x92s Office of the Registrar. A transcript which has been \xc2\x93issued to the student\xc2\x94 will not be accepted.
