Admission Requirements
Academic Requirements
Candidates for admission into the M.A. Programme should meet all Graduate School qualification criteria such as bachelors\' degrees with second degree honors (lower) or better. The programme is intended for intelligent students with university degrees and work experience in other areas (nursing, journalism, social work, engineering, finance, teaching or other occupations) eager to learn about anthropology.
In unusual cases, students with lower grades may be considered for the programme, but they must offer a justification in their application. Students who do not meet the University\'s requirement in English should have a TOEFL score of 550 or above (213 or above for the computer-based test).
Shortlisted students will be interviewed as part of the admission process. Past academic performance, work experience, references, motivation (as shown in interview) and language ability will all be considered in the admission decision.
Applications for admission to M.A. programme should include:
- Completed online application under web of Graduate School
- Official transcripts from the University attended by the applicant, with official signature/stamp chop and sealed with official envelope (Please specify \'Application for MA Programme\' on envelope and send to division by deadline)
- Two letters of recommendation (Send to division by deadline)
- Original proof of proficiency in English (for students who have graduated from a university that does not use English as a medium of instruction). The department prefers the TOEFL exam (550 or above, or 213 or above for the computer-based test; 79 or above for the Internet-based test), or IELTS (band 6.5 or above)
- Receipt of application fee (Applicable if paid by Bank draft/ Cheque, no need if paid by Credit Card)
- Copies of certificates and a copy of applicants HKID card or other identity document
- A one-page statement of purpose, describing why the applicant wants to study anthropology at CUHK (FAQ)
- A sample of the applicants writing: writing from non-anthropological field is acceptable
