Academic Requirements

  • Completed School of Education Admissions Application.
  • A non-refundable application fee of $50 (USD) by credit card, check, or money order payable to \'University of Pittsburgh\'.
  • Official transcripts of all undergraduate work.
  • Official, third-party evaluation of all international transcripts for applicants who have not received a master\'s degree within the United States. We strongly recommend using World Education Services (WES) to complete this service.
  • A bachelor\'s degree from an accredited college or university. A baccalaureate degree in social science (e.g., child development, education, sociology, psychology, anthropology) is preferred. However, students holding degrees in natural sciences, health care, or liberal arts are also encouraged to apply.
  • A QPA of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale is required. Applicants who fall below this standard may be considered for provisional graduate status if very strong supporting evidence of their ability to complete a graduate program is provided.
  • Fulfillment of all prerequisites.
  • A two to four page written statement of professional experiences, career goals, and interests that includes specific identification of the program concentration in which you may be interested.
  • Three letters of recommendation from professionals who can attest to your academic achievement and potential for graduate study and/or professional work. At least one letter should be from an academic reference who describes previous academic performance and potential for graduate-level study. Personal references (e.g. from family members, friends, and/or casual acquaintances) are not considered appropriate and will not be accepted.
