In the Bachelor’s program in Architecture at the TUM School of Engineering and Design, you develop creative solutions for sustainable spaces – from tiny houses to urban districts. Architecture is more than designing buildings – it shapes our future. The Bachelor’s degree program in Architecture (B.A.) equips you with the creative and technical skills to responsibly tackle complex construction tasks. Topics such as climate adaptation, resource conservation, and CO₂ reduction are just as central as creative design practice and a holistic understanding of our built environment.
In the Architecture program at TUM, you combine creative design with technical and theoretical knowledge. You learn to plan building structures, work creatively, and reflect on architectural concepts from historical, artistic, and scientific perspectives. At the core is design – as a tool for innovative solutions. You develop prototypes, analyze sites and contexts, and learn to shape architectural interventions responsibly. In this way, you acquire the skills to manage planning processes and actively contribute to the transition toward climate neutrality.

Program Curriculum
At TUM ED, you will study an eight-semester full-time Bachelor’s program and complete 240 credits by the end of your studies. A key component is the mandatory semester abroad – a unique feature that sets our Bachelor’s program apart from all others in Germany.Design plays a central role throughout the program, primarily expressed through project work. These projects are the core element of each semester and build upon one another throughout the Bachelor’s program.
• Characterized by compulsory courses and semester-based project work
• Core subjects include: Design, Structural Engineering, Building Technology, History and Theory, Representation and Design, as well as Digital Form-Finding
• Development of perception and design skills
• Introduction to architectural design methodology
• Teaching of scientific and technical fundamentals
• Teaching of humanities and social science fundamentals
• One or two semesters of study at a foreign partner university
• Deepening and expanding previously acquired knowledge
• Characterized by elective courses, allowing students to develop individual areas of focus
• Semester 8: Bachelor’s Thesis with final colloquium
While the first four semesters are dominated by compulsory modules, semesters 5 to 8 offer significant flexibility. From semester 5 onward, at least 97 credits must be earned in the elective area. The study abroad period (typically 30 credits per semester) is integrated here and must relate to the program’s content. The elective area is structured as follows:
• Elective module catalog “Project Building Design” and “Project Urban Planning”: at least 12 credits each
• Elective module catalog “Methods in Architecture”: at least 6 credits
• From the elective module catalogs “Technology in Architecture,” “Architecture, Urban Planning and Landscape Architecture” and “Theory and Contextual Knowledge of Architecture” at least two must be completed with a minimum of 6 credits each
• Elective module catalog “Transfer Modules”: maximum 10 credits

Admission Requirements
For this degree program, in addition to a Higher Education Entrance Qualification (HZB) and German language proficiency, you must meet the following program-specific competencies :
• Ability to think and act analytically and in a structured manner in relation to complex, highly interdisciplinary problems addressed by architecture and planning.
• Spatial and visual imagination.
• Basic understanding of construction-related and design-related issues.
• Strong language skills in German and English.

Tuition Fee
Semester contribution ~€150 + possible non-EU surcharge
Non-EU students pay additional tuition (~€2,000–3,000/semester). Semester fee covers Deutschlandticket for public transport in Bavaria.
