Academic Requirements
- Essay of motivation. Applicants must write and upload an essay in the online application. This and all supporting documents help us get to know your work, your goals, and how the MSAS will serve you in your chosen career path. Your Essay of Motivation should articulate why you are drawn to the MSAS program at the University of Utah. Consider what experience prepares you, as well as what particular ambitions you have for your potential studies here at Utah, or how you hope to have changed at the end of your time as a Utah student. Indicate your topic of interest and track you are interested in and why. Name specific faculty you are interested in working with in pursuing your degree.
- Limit your essay to a one page Word document, using Arial 10 pt., 1.5 line spacing, maximum number of words is 500. We recommend that you write your essay of motivation before beginning the online application. Note that applicants are required to submit their essays as an Essay of Motivation online by the December 1st (international students) or January 1st deadline.
- Letters of Recommendation. Provide three letters of recommendation (e.g., from former professors, employers, or other people in the professional community. To facilitate this process, you will be asked as part of your online application to enter the names and contact information (including correct email addresses) of your recommenders. Once that information is saved, an email will automatically be sent to the recommenders with an access code and instructions on how to proceed with the online recommendation. Note that the recommendation requests are sent immediately to the recommenders once you save that information, regardless of whether you have completed your application. Please remind recommenders that letters must be completed and submitted by the December 1st (international students) or January 1st deadline.
- Transcripts. You will be required to upload an unofficial transcript from each institution that you have attended. Uploading unofficial transcripts will significantly decrease the amount of time required to process your application. Official transcripts will be required if you are admitted.
