Admission Requirements

Academic Requirements

The Graduate Program of the School of Architecture at the University of Kentucky College of Design evaluates student portfolios for breadth and variety of media, scale, and subject matter. Within the limitations given in the application, the portfolio should demonstrate ability in areas of architectural design and communication.

The graduate admissions committee will evaluate portfolios for competence in architectural design, coherent demonstration of visual and spatial abilities expressed through a basic understanding of material and construction, drawing ability, and the use of color in two-dimensional and three-dimensional work. Portfolios should present visual acuity and graphic abilities through paintings, drawings, prints, graphic design, or architectural drawings. We recommend that applicants include freehand drawings from direct observation as well as a selection of plans, sections, and elevations.

1. Applicants must have a NAAB Accredited Professional Degree or equivalent (CAMBERA Accord for international student) to apply to the Architecture Graduate Program.

2. Complete the UK Graduate School Application.

3. Portfolio: See Graduate Portfolio Guidelines.

4. Three Letters of Recommendation: Letters are not required from graduates of the UK/CoD School of Architecture.

5. Personal Essay: The essay should explain your interest in architecture, and outline your reasons for applying to this program. Please limit your essay to 500 words.

6. One copy of your transcript(s): Please include transcripts for all previous graduate and undergraduate work. The transcripts do not need to be official.

English Proficiency: IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
