Academic Requirements
You need the following GPA score:
Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 2.25 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).
Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

Admission Requirements
An applicant must meet Graduate School requirementsas outlined in the official Wayne State University Graduate Bulletin (www.bulletins.wayne.edu)plus these departmental requirements to be considered for admission to the Art History graduate program:
- An undergraduate or equivalent degree in art history, and a minimum \xc2\x91B\xc2\x92 average in undergraduate art history.Applicants who do not have an undergraduate degree in art history may be asked to take one or two survey courses in the field and/orupper level courses.
- Threeletters of recommendation from persons familiar with the applicant\'s academic or professional activities and potential, preferably from previous art history instructors. For individuals who have been out of school for the last 10 years, letters from other professionals who are in a position to assess the applicant\'s potential for graduate work may be substituted.
- Three semesters at collegelevel (or equivalent) in an approved languagewith a \xc2\x91B\xc2\x92average or better.Applicants may be admitted without having completed this requirement but must complete the requirement as soon as possible.
- Personal statement (1-2 pages), explaining the applicant\xc2\x92sinterest in and exposure to art history and the career goals the applicantwishesto pursue
- Asample research paper (preferably on a topic in art history)No course credits earned in making up deficiencies may be counted as program credits required forthe degree.Applicants whose overall grade point average is between 2.25 and 3.0 may take the Graduate Record Examination tobe considered for admission
