Program Overview
The Bachelor in Theatre (Hons) programme is aimed to give you a wide perspective of the practices as well as the histories and theories related to theatre and performance. The course is offered by the School of Performing Arts provides a range of essential knowledge and basic skills necessary in staging practices, such as lighting, sound, stage design, scenography, prop-making, costumes, as well as risk assessment and health and safety awareness. During the course, you will be exposed to a balanced mix of classroom-based and studio-based study-units, combining theoretical and practical experiential approaches. Some of the teaching methods include; seminars, workshops, screenings, lectures and work-based placements. Your learning will be assessed by a variety of academic correction methods, such as oral presentations, practical work presentations, written examinations and submissions of written work. The study units are designed and taught to international standards of excellence, as evidenced by the teaching staff's qualifications and experience, as well as by the input and academic auditing of international professionals. Our alumni have found jobs at universities (in Malta and abroad), various schools and sixth forms, the media, as well as in the cultural industries, including governmental agencies in education and culture, the Malta Arts Council, the Manoel Theatre, St James Cavalier, Drama Centre, Drama Unit, Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, V18 Foundation, and the Malta Arts Festival. You may also use your skills and knowledge learnt to develop careers in diplomacy, management, and private enterprise. A good number of our students have continued with their studies at postgraduate level, including PhDs, in Malta and abroad.
