Program Overview
The three-year course in Dental Hygiene will allow you to be exposed to the theoretical and scientific foundation of the profession and also become skilful in clinical practice within the professional environment of the teaching hospital, in a timely and structured manner. You will receive knowledge on basic clinical skills, general pathology of the human body, oral health and oral/dental diseases, clinical governance and medical literature, to name a few. During the course, you will also be able to provide oral prophylaxis on healthy patients and therefore refine your clinical skills that will make you employable after completing your studies. The course will provide a sufficient body of knowledge to enable you as future dental hygienists to undertake your prescribed work with care, safety and responsibility and to recognise the full scope of your remit. By your final year, you will be knowledgeable enough to write a dissertation. Admission Requirements
General Entry Requirements Refer to the list of country-specific qualifications Special Course Requirements A pass at Grade C in Chemistry or Biology at Intermediate Level or a pass at Advanced Level in Chemistry or Biology. Applicants in possession of the Diploma in Dental Surgery Assistance shall be considered as having satisfied both the general and special entry requirements. Maltese applicants who, in terms of regulation 13 of the Admissions Regulations, 2016 are exempted from possessing a pass in the Secondary Education Certificate examination in Maltese at Grade 5 or better or at SEC level 3, are required to present the Medical Maltese Proficiency Certificate awarded by the University of Malta, or a pass at SEC level 3 in Il-Malti bħala Lingwa Barranija prior to the commencement of the Course; Non-Maltese applicants who, in terms of regulation 13 of the Admissions Regulations, 2016 are exempted from possessing a pass at SEC level 3 in Il-Malti bħala Lingwa Barranija , are required to present the Medical Maltese Proficiency Certificate awarded by the University of Malta, or a pass in the study-unit in Medical Maltese as part of the Certificate in Foundation Studies (Medical, Dental and Health Sciences) course, prior to the commencement of the Course. Applicants presenting overseas qualifications and either a pass in the Secondary Education Certificate examination in Maltese at Grade 5 or better or at SEC level 3, or a pass at SEC level 3 in Il-Malti bħala Lingwa Barranija , shall be exempted from presenting the Medical Maltese Proficiency Certificate.
