Program Overview
The B.Sc. (Hons) Speech Language Pathology will equip you with the necessary knowledge and skills to work as a speech language pathologist. You will obtain an in-depth understanding of the development of human communication and swallowing across the lifespan, and the nature of related disorders. In addition to topics about speech language pathology, the course covers the main concepts of supporting and highly related disciplines, including psychology, education, and linguistic, behavioural and biomedical sciences.You will also learn through active observation and direct participation during clinical placements, which are held under the supervision of qualified speech language pathologists in a variety of settings. You will be expected to use and understand Maltese and English during these placements. Proficiency in Maltese and English is required when engaging with individuals with communication disorders, and their significant others.As a student, you may also benefit from Erasmus+ opportunities to study in an institution abroad. By the end of the course, you will become an autonomous professional capable of enhancing the ability to communicate effectively and/or swallow safely, thus improving the quality of life of individuals and those around them. Career Opportunities
As a graduate of Speech Language Pathology, you will find suitable employment with the local health services, specialist health services, schools, adult training centres, homes for the elderly, private institutions and non-governmental bodies. This degree programme will prepare you to be generic speech-language pathologists, being eligible to register with professional bodies within EU member states.
