Program Curriculum
Course Structure
- Two consecutive semesters of innovation education with integrated emerging-market design projects (18 credits)
- An internship, which may be completed during the summer (full-time) or during the fall and winter semesters (part-time). The inaugural cohort of students traveled to Costa Rica for a global design internship during summer of 2015. See 2015 GMI internship blog at gmi.rice.edu. Subsequent students may fulfill this requirement with an industry internship in the summer, or during the fall and winter semesters. This will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Students are responsible for obtaining and selecting an internship that best aligns with their career goals (6 Credits)
- One graduate-level course in MATH, CAAM, or STAT (3 credits, 400-level courses may be considered)
- One elective graduate-level BIOE course (3 credits)
- Fifteen bioengineering credit hours at the graduate level (500+)
- A minimum of 24 of the 30 credit hours must be taken at Rice.
- Nine elective professional-development credit hours
- Three general elective credit hours
- Graduate-level MATH, STAT, or CAAM (3 credit hours, 400-level courses may be considered)

- Transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate schools attended
- At least three letters of recommendation from teachers or advisors
- Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores - The verbal, quantitative, and analytical writing scores must be reported. (No advanced tests are required.)
English Proficiency: IELTS 7 or equivalent.
