Bioengineering

Students may enter the Master of Science with a bachelor\xc2\x92s degree in Chemical Engineering or other engineering or science discipline. Non-chemical engineering students wishing to pursue a master\xc2\x92s program may require limited remedial coursework.
The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering has the following minimum requirements for admission to the graduate program:

• 3.0 GPA in undergraduate program (based on A=4.0)

• GRE Scores (148 verbal, 144 quantitative)

• International Applicants: TOEFL (internet exam - 80, paper exam - 550, computerized exam - 213) or IELTS score of 7.0 or higher - required for non-native speakers of English

• A completed Application for Graduate Admission.

• Payment of a non-refundable application fee of U.S. $60.00, which will not be waived, deferred, or refunded (See Board of Regents Policy). The fee must be paid before the application will be processed or reviewed. The fee must be made by credit card or via online check. The applicant must request a paper application if they cannot pay by these methods.

• Official transcripts reflecting all undergraduate and/or post-baccalaureate study from each international and U.S. college/university. Official transcripts are those that come directly to MSU from the previously attended university. An English translation must be provided for all non-English academic transcripts and credentials. Photocopies can be used to initiate the application process, however official transcripts/credentials are still required upon admission.

• Note: MSU reserves the right to question the evaluation of all non-U.S. academic credentials/transcripts.

• An undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale). Applicants with post-baccalaureate coursework must have a graduate GPA of at least 3.0. See Full Admission with Provision.

• Three (3) letters of reference. Applicants will be asked to provide information about their references. The electronic process will prompt each reference to submit a signed reference letter in English.

• Official entrance examination scores, e.g., Graduate Records Exam (GRE), if required by the admitting department. See Departments/Areas of Study. The Graduate School must receive an official score report from the specific testing agency (use code: 4488). Unofficial score reports may be used to initiate the application process, however, registration will be prohibited until an official score report is received.

• A personal statement.

• Copy of applicant\xc2\x92s passport.

• Evidence of Financial Support. MSU requires certification of financial support from applicants with non-immigrant visas. The U.S. government requires international applicants to show proof of funds to cover at least the first year of study. The International Student Financial Certificate will need to be completed by all applicants during the application process. Proof of funds is required if an applicant is providing partial or full funding from external/personal sources. This proof can be in the form of an official letter in English from a banking institution showing the amount of funds available (in U.S. currency) to the applicant during the academic year. Exceptions: If an applicant is requesting a full assistantship, and does not have personal funds, it is not necessary to provide the proof of funds. If an applicant will enroll in online courses only and will not apply for a non-immigrant student visa to enter the U.S., it is not necessary to provide proof of funds.

• Immunization records are required once admitted. See Student Health Service. Registration holds are placed on all students until proof of required immunizations are submitted. Questions should be referred to the MSU Student Health Service, +1-406-994-2311.
