Admission Requirements
Academic Requirements
For admission to the graduate program, students must:
- hold a bachelor\xc2\x92s degree in biology or related fields, or its equivalent
- show promise of successful achievement in the field.
Prospective students must complete the application for graduate study and submit:
- Official transcripts
- Three letters of recommendation
- A personal essay, describing the applicant\xc2\x92s interest in biology, personal goals, and any circumstances related to the applicant\xc2\x92s prior academic record that may need explanation.
The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is not required for admission, although GRE scores are helpful to the admissions committee, especially for international applicants. Applicants with at least a B average as undergraduates have a good chance of acceptance. Applicants with an average below a B may be admitted based on extenuating circumstances, relevant work experience, or other factors.
Additional requirements for the Biotechnology Concentration
Students interested in the biotechnology concentration must first be admitted to the M.S. program in Biology through the regular application process and complete one semester (12 credits) of graduate courses. Students must have taken the GRE, or scored above 450 on the GMAT. The required exam can be taken after the student has been accepted to and enrolled in the M.S. in Biology.
Admission will be based on previous record, performance at Adelphi, and potential for success in biotechnology.
