Program Curriculum

Course Structure

  1. five Biomedical Engineering core courses;
  2. a minimum of 3 units in a BME approved ethics course;
  3. BME seminar and student forum every semester offered, but only four units will count towards the degree;
  4. 2 units of Research methods in Biomedical Engineering (lab rotations);
  5. 9 units in graduate engineering, life or physical sciences, or mathematics courses; and (f) 6 units of BME Thesis.

You need the following GPA score:

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

  • Official transcripts of current Graduate Record Exam (GRE) scores
  • A 1-2 page essay or statement of purpose describing your background, research interests and career goals. Include in your statement any information pertinent to your research experience, whether in course work, special projects or employment. Please explain why you want to obtain a graduate degree in Biomedical Engineering and what, specifically, led you to apply to our graduate program.
  • Three letters of recommendation from former professors or individuals knowledgeable about your academic and scientific abilities.
  • An original official transcript. Applicants are required to have a bachelor\xc2\x92s degree in enginering, mathematics, physical sciences, or quantitative life sciences for admission into the Program, with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
