Program Curriculum
We’ve designed this course to lead to registration as a mental health nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
You’ll learn from a passionate and highly skilled team with a range of experience across the different aspects of mental health nursing. Our staff are qualified senior practitioners and active researchers, so your learning will be enriched by the latest in best practice and clinical understanding.
You’ll quickly gain confidence and competence as you carry out hands-on tasks, with half of your time spent on placements in a variety of mental health settings. You'll also learn from people with lived experience of mental health challenges. With regular access to outstanding facilities including our state-of-the-art simulation suite, you'll be able to develop your clinical expertise in a safe environment.
Your research project allows you to develop the skills to find and appraise research, as well as plan and design a piece of research. Your dissertation will consolidate your knowledge in an investigative or literature-based research or service improvement project.
Admission Requirements
Academic Requirements
- A good honours degree (or equivalent) preferably in a health or science-related subject. We will however also consider applications from graduates with non-health-related degrees.
- 5 GCSEs, including Mathematics, English Language and a science subject (ie Chemistry or Biology) at grade C or above.
- Two recent references, at least one academic.
- Experience of paid or voluntary work within a health care environment or relevant to your chosen field.
- Successful performance in the selection process (including an individual interview).
- All applicants must be screened for fitness to practise.
Securing a place is subject to both a satisfactory DBS and an Occupational Health clearance. If neither clearance has been completed prior to enrolment or a DBS issue has been declared on application, then enrolment may not be possible.
If enrolment has been agreed, then continuation on the programme will be contingent on satisfactory clearances.ScreeningAll applicants will be screened for fitness for practice and a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be made.
