Admission Requirements
Academic Requirements
You need the following GPA score:
Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).
Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).
Admission Requirements
School of Chemical Engineering graduate faculty members consider a variety of factors when making an admission recommendation. Academic background (i.e., the courses you have taken as an undergraduate) and test scores will be considered along with your statement of goals.
Applicants must have:
- GPA - The department prefers a minimum requirement of a degree from an ABET Accredited B.S. program and an undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 for admission to the masters program and a graduate grade point average of 3.5 for admission to the PhD program (on a 4.0 scale). Equivalent credentials are required from an international university.
- GRE- The department prefers a minimum of 310 combined score on the quantitative and verbal component but the score on the analytical writing portion of the exam will also be considered.
- For international students, the minimum acceptable score on the TOEFL exam for admission to Chemical Engineering is 79 (on the internet-based TOEFL), 213 (computer based test) or 550 (paper based test) or an IELTS academic stream score of at least 6.5.
- Students with undergraduate degrees in closely-related fields such as chemistry, physics, mathematics, biological sciences or another engineering discipline are also invited to apply for admission to our graduate program. Such applications are evaluated on an individual basis, and specific plans of study are developed for each student. These study plans typically include an additional 10-15 semester credit hours of undergraduate courses in Chemical Engineering. Usually, we have several students with undergraduate degrees in mechanical engineering, chemistry or physics in our graduate program, and they have had good success.
English Proficiency: IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
