Admission criteria
  • Four-year Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 (B average) in the last 60 credit hours of study
  • Degree granted by university of recognized standing

Please note that programs with a thesis requirement normally require an undergraduate honours degree. There are some occasions where this requirement may be waived where evidence of independent research capacity is present.

Degree requirements
  • Classes: Candidates for the MSc degree require a minimum of two one-term classes of Core Chemistry Classes, or an alternative set of classes totaling six credit hours.
  • Seminar: Present a departmental seminar of acceptable quality
  • Teaching Assistantship: Requires a total of 270 hours of TA experience
  • Thesis and oral examination: Produce an acceptable thesis and defend it successfully
English language proficiency

Students for whom English is not their first language and who did not complete their previous degree at an English-speaking university will need to submit proof of English language proficiency.

Dalhousie accepts a number of different English proficiency test scores:
