Program Curriculum

Course Structure

  1. Introduction (10 ECTS): lectured at DTU, it consists of the course Wind Energy Technology and Aerodynamics (10 ECTS). The course introduces the full EWEM students cohort to Wind Energy technology and the role of the graduate as a technological agent, including technology valorisation, team work and management perspective.
  2. Specialization (49-61 ECTS): this block includes compulsive (core) and elective courses, both on the specialization (applied and fundamental) and general competences, such as scientific writing, research methodologies and languages.
  3. Summer/Spring school: guest lecturers from industry and academia lecture on Wind Energy R&D, market and general competences; it is a transversal to the four specializations. It is elective and free of charge for EWEM Students and for EWEM Alumni, and will be integrated with the EAWE PhD Summer/Spring school, becoming a network point for MSc and PhD students, academic research staff and industry.
  4. EWEM guest lectures and symposia: regular symposia by guest lecturers/researchers from our associate partners and by PhD students from the Consortium, exposing students to the state-of-the-art in research.
  5. Internship (15 ECTS) or Professional orientation (6 ECTS): students can chose a full 3-months internship (they need to count on studying longer; finish with 129 ECTS) or can opt for a 1-month professional orientation in industry or research institute (associate partner or otherwise).
  6. MSc thesis (30-45 ECTS): the thesis work can be developed at any of the partner institutions or associated partners, independent of specialization, and is jointly supervised by supervisors from the two diploma awarding partners in the study track, and possibly a third local supervisor.

Academic Requirements

Besides the regulations posted at the TUDelft\xc2\x92s\xc2\xa0application webpage, the following guidelines will be used to consider applications. Please note that the admission criteria described\xc2\xa0here\xc2\xa0apply, except for the GRE test: EWEM applicants do not have to take the GRE test.

1)\xc2\xa0Candidates must have obtained a BSc diploma of substantial quality and level corresponding to at least 3 years studies at University, equivalent to 180 ECTS.

2)\xc2\xa0The programme builds upon a first degree such as a Bachelor\xc2\x92s degree or an equivalent qualification in a related field. The four tracks have different degree requirements.

  • For the Rotor Design track applicants must hold a Bachelor\xc2\x92s degree in either Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, Physics or a degree with equivalent core content.
  • For the Wind Physics track applicants must hold a Bachelor\xc2\x92s degree in either Mechanical engineering, Aerospace engineering, Mathematics or Physics or a degree with equivalent core content.
  • For the Electrical Power Systems track applicants must hold a Bachelor\xc2\x92s degree in Electrical engineering, Physics or a degree with equivalent core content.
  • For the Offshore Engineering track applicants must hold a Bachelor\xc2\x92s degree in either Civil engineering, Structural engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Physics or a degree with equivalent core content.

3)\xc2\xa0The applicant\xc2\x92s qualifications must include a strong working knowledge of mathematics and experience in programming and applicants must document that they have fulfilled the following minimum requirements (if not explicit in the names mentioned on the transcripts, extra documentation is required!):

English Proficiency: IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
