Academic Requirements

After receiving your application, we will send you a confirmation with an application form and details of the documents we require from you.

There are three admission rounds for sending in application forms and documents to apply for the study year 2017-2018:

  • round 1 > sending applications before February 14, 2017
  • round 2 > sending applications; we prefer before April 04, 2017 (at the latest May 02, 2017).
  • round 3 > sending applications; we prefer before June 06, 2017 (at the latest July 04, 2017).
Admissions procedure
Our admissions procedure consists of two rounds. Firstly, we will assess the documentation and completed application form that you have submitted together with your written motivation. After this, we will invite you for an interview of approximately half an hour, which is possibly followed by a second interview. If you live abroad and cannot come to Groningen for this procedure, we can conduct the interview by telephone or Skype.
Admissions evaluation
During your admissions evaluation we will assess your theoretical skills as well as your ability to use knowledge to deepen and enrich yourself as an artist. Your work is discussed, as is your motivation, your bachelor thesis and the importance of the theoretical component of the programme. The admissions committee comprises theoretical and artistic professionals, including a practical and theory lecturer, a student and the head of the Frank Mohr Institute.
Entry requirements
To be admitted you need a bachelor\'s degree in art (visual arts or design) or an equivalent previous education (for example, a university degree or diploma in a related area). In addition, you are expected to have good English language skills. You must be able to read specialist publications in English, follow instructions in English and express yourself well in English. To prove your competence, you have to submit an official international IELTS, TOEFL or Cambridge ESOL test certificate.

English Proficiency: IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
