Admission Requirements
Academic Requirements
You need the following GPA score:
Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).
Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).
Students applying for admission to the M.A. in Clinical Psychology should submit the following materials to the Office of Graduate Admissions:
- Graduate Admissions Application
- Application Fee
- Official transcript from the baccalaureate degree granting institution
- 18 hours of undergraduate Psychology that includes a course in Research Methods and a course in Statistics
- Minimum 3.0 undergraduate GPA
- Personal statement
- Three recommendation letters with waiver forms
- Official GRE scores
- Official score report of the Advanced Psychology Test of the GRE (recommended but not required)
Students admitted to the Master\xc2\x92s programs in Psychology at SHSU have average undergraduate GPAs in excess of 3.6 and percentile ranks in excess of the 55th percentile for both the verbal and quantitative sections. Those whose scores are not that high still may wish to apply. We recognize that students do not always demonstrate their potential for professional success through such traditional criteria. We seek promising students from all backgrounds who will enhance our program and, later, professional psychology. High test scores and grades do not guarantee acceptance, and students whose lower scores are offset by other exceptional qualifications may be admitted. In any case, all applications must be complete (with transcripts, GRE scores, letters, and a personal statement of interests and goals) before any admission decision is made.
