Academic Requirements

Applicants to the communication or interdisciplinary communication programs should submit the following information in addition to the online application:
  1. Official academic records of all previously attended colleges or universities must be submitted directly from the colleges or universities to the Office of Graduate Admission Processing. Hand-carried transcripts, official copies marked Issued to Student and unofficial copies are not acceptable.
  2. Three letters of recommendation from professors or employers.
  3. A personal statement or r\xc3\xa9sum\xc3\xa9.
  4. Official GRE test scores.
  5. If you are requesting a graduate teaching assistantship, please submit a sample of academic writing such as a research paper, published paper or thesis. All application materials for teaching assistantship applicants should be received by the Office of Graduate Admission Processing by March 9. Applications for teaching assistantships are considered once a year.
Additional requirements apply for international students.Academic RequirementsIn addition to a bachelor\'s degree from a recognized institution of higher learning, applicants should have exposure to a variety of research and analytical or critical methods during their undergraduate studies. Additionally, you should possess a basic knowledge of, and appreciation for, approaches to the study of communication. Applicants should have earned a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average on a 4.0 scale. The graduate committee will recognize the potential merits of professional experience when reviewing an applicant\'s credentials.
