Course Structure
- Compulsory courses (15EC): Orientation in biology and Environmental Sciences, Quantitative Conservation Biology, Management of Ecosystems, Microbiology of Wetland Ecosystems or Biodiversity and Ecological Assessment, Environmental and Ecological Modelling.
- Specialisation elective (3EC): e.g., Estuarine Ecology, Ecological and environmental concepts, Population ecology.

Masters specialisation in Communities and Ecosystems
If you want to follow this specialisation, you have to be admitted to the Masters in Biology. The Examination Board will consider whether or not you have met the requirements.
Admission requirements for students with a Bachelor\'s diploma from a Dutch university
In order to get admission to the Masters in Biology, youll need a completed Bachelors degree in Biology, Environmental sciences or a related field of science.
Admission requirements for students with a Bachelors degree from a Dutch University College or University of Applied Sciences (HBO)
Its possible to be admitted to this Masters specialisation with a completed HBO Bachelors degree, and the addition of a relevant minor or pre-Masters. The most relevant Bachelors degrees are:
- Ecology
- Forest and Nature Management
- Land and Water Management
- Environmental Sciences

Admission requirements for international students
An international degree has to be equivalent to a Dutch university diploma. The Examination Board will determine if an international student has the required knowledge to be admitted, and if the student is required to follow specific courses from the Bachelor\'s programme to eliminate possible deficiencies.
