Admission Requirements
Academic Requirements
a) Bachelor Degree (AQF level 7 or 8) with specified prerequisites
b) Provide satisfactory evidence of successful completion in the following courses at a tertiary level
The completion of all prerequisites within the last ten years is mandatory.
Essential prerequisites:
Chemistry equivalent to a minimum of 20 units
Mathematics equivalent to a minimum of 10 units
Physiology equivalent to a minimum of 10 units
Biochemistry/Molecular Biology equivalent to a minimum of 10 units
Pharmacology equivalent to a minimum of 10 units
Desirable knowledge:
Microbiology equivalent to a minimum of 10 units
Statistics equivalent to a minimum of 10 units
Course or discipline requirements can be satisfied by studies deemed by the Head of School to be equivalent. If an applicant believes they have suitable equivalent qualifications and/or experience, they are encouraged to apply through UAC. If further information is required they may be asked to provide information to the university for consideration.
Successful completion of the Bachelor of Biomedical Science at the University of Newcastle satisfies the entry requirements.
c) Pharmacists are required to possess a high level English of communication skills and is specifically evaluated by the registering authorities prior to registration. The English language competency is an Academic IELTS Test score of 7.5 (with no subtest score less than 7), or an overall pass in the Occupational English Test (OET) with grades A or B only in each of the four component. The Pharmacy Board of Australia requires that an applicant who is an international student seeking registration as a pharmacist must have achieved an IELTS overall total score of 7.5 with a minimum score of 7 in each of the four components (listening, reading, writing and speaking) or an overall pass in the OET with grades A or B only in each of the four components.
