Academic Requirements

The Department of Computer Science offers a nine course, three-semester Master of Arts degree for students who have completed a B.A. or B.S. in computer science or a closely related field. (Please note that we also offer a 12 course, four-semester Master\'s degree for students with no computer science background.) The minimum degree requirements include an approved schedule of nine courses numbered 100 or above.There is a three-semester residency requirement for full-time students, though the program may also be completed on a part-time basis.To apply, you need to submit:

  • Transcripts from all universities and colleges attended must be uploaded to your application; do not mail official transcripts to our office. For more information, visit Frequently Asked Questions;
  • Letters of recommendation, submitted electronically. The Ph.D. program requires three letters of recommendation; the M.A. requires two letters of recommendation; the B.A./M.A. program requires one letter of recommendation.
  • A curriculum vitae (CV) or resum\xc3\xa9;
  • A statement of purpose indicating your reasons for undertaking graduate study. In addition, please describe your qualifications for the academic program and your objectives in undertaking this program.
  • Standardized tests: Our GRE code is 3092.
  • Ph.D.: Graduate Record Exam (GRE) required (On average, PhD students are in the 85% in verbal and 95% in quantitative.)
  • Master\xc2\x92s: GRE required.
  • B.A./M.A: GRE not required.
