Admission Requirements

Academic Requirements

Qualified undergraduate students in Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts (seniors only) may register for the Introduction and Advanced Substance Abuse courses in the CMHSAC curriculum subject to the normal restrictions.

There are no separate eligibility requirements for admission to the CMHSAC. Any student admitted to the general MA program in psychology is eligible for the CMHSAC. However, students must apply separately for the CMHSAC, which can only be done after a student has been admitted to and registered for courses in the Master of Arts Program in Psychology.

Application to the CMHSAC requires submission of the CMHSAC enrollment form, submitted by the start of the second semester in the general MA program, although there is no formal deadline for enrolling. Students may take any number of required courses before submitting a formal application, but they will not be permitted to apply for fieldwork placement and cannot register for the required Ethics course until they have formally enrolled in the concentration. Students are typically given the CMHSAC enrollment form during the first few weeks of the Introduction to Substance Abuse Counseling Course and the forms are then given to the student advisors by Dr. Talley. Students who wish to participate in fieldwork are strongly encouraged to complete the CMHSAC enrollment form by the end of the first semester as they will then be eligible to begin fieldwork during the second semester of the MA Program under the supervision of Dr. Talley.

Qualified undergraduate students studying psychology at the Eugene Lang College, The New School for LIberal Arts (Seniors only) may register for the Introduction and Advanced Substance Abuse courses in the CMHSAC curriculum subject to the normal restrictions. Students in the accelerated Lang BA/MA Program are also strongly encouraged to apply to the CMHSAC.
