Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: Upper Second Class

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to Upper Second Class on the UK Honour scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on the UK Honour scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

Academic requirements
  • First or 2:1 Honours degree (or equivalent) in an appropriate subject (European studies, politics, history, economics or sociology), from a recognised university.
  • Fluency or near-fluency in English.
The Transatlantic Track programme has limited places, and is therefore quite competitive. As students are able to determine their programme of study, choosing sites where all the teaching and assessment is in English, we welcome applications from students who do not have German or French competency.The Department of Politics, Languages & International Studies in considering applications, will take the following into account:
  • Extended and responsible experience in a relevant field, such as commerce, industry, teaching, or in a government establishment.
  • Authorship of papers or other work of an acceptable academic standard, e.g. published translation.
English Language requirementsCertificates must be dated to within two years of the start of the programme of study.
  • IELTS 6.5 (with no less than 6.0 in each of the four components)
  • PTE Academic of 62 with no less than 59 in any component
You may be eligible for a combined offer to include both pre-sessional English 5 (PS5) and the Master\'s degree programme. The advantage of this offer is that overseas students can apply for a Visa for the full duration of the programme rather than re-applying for a Visa at the end of the pre-sessional course.ReferencesTwo references are required. At least one of these must be an academic reference.
