Admission Requirements

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: 3

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

  • Complete the online application via the Graduate Studies website.
  • Pay the $50 application fee. This fee is non-refundable and must be submitted with the Application for Admission to the Graduate School.
  • Send your transcripts to the Graduate School. NOTE: The Graduate Studies office can obtain these from the Registrar if you have previously attended EWU. You must request transcripts from all other institutions. Do NOT submit transcripts directly to the Department.
  • Complete Personal Statement questions via the online application
  • Upload your cover letter and resume via the online application
  • Add contact information for three (3) recommendation letters addressing your qualifications for graduate study.
  • Send Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores to the Graduate Studies office. Exam scores older than five (5) years are not acceptable. The Psychology Department requires you take the General Exam only. All official scores must be received by the specific department deadline.
General Requirements
  • Apply online and submit the non-refundable $50 application fee. (Only one fee is assessed for dual-degree applicants.)
  • Submit one copy of official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. Students who have previously been admitted to Eastern should submit transcripts only from schools attended since their previous EWU admission, if any.
  • Submit official score reports from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test, if required by the department, or score reports from the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT), for MBA applicants. See the GRE website or the GMAT website for detailed information about these tests, including testing locations and the registration process.
  • Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the most recent 90 quarter or 60 semester graded credits of postsecondary academic course work. For students who do not meet this standard, the vice provost for Graduate Education may, with the written recommendation of the program director, approve admission based upon considerations which include GRE or other test scores, performance in relevant graduate courses and faculty evaluations.
  • Applicants must be recommended by the major department and approved by the vice provost for Graduate Education for admission.
  • International applicants whose first language is not English must submit a TOEFL score of at least 92 on the iBT or 580 on the paper-based test, a PTE Academic score of at least 63 or an IELTS score of at least 7.0. Applicants with an English language test score below the qualifying level may enroll provisionally while studying for English proficiency. International applicants who have earned an undergraduate degree from an accredited postsecondary institution in the U.S. are not required to submit an English language test score as part of their application.
