Admission Requirements

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: Lower Second Class

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to Lower Second Class on the UK Honour scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on the UK Honour scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

  • Applicants must hold a 2.2 degree (Level 8 - National Qualifications Authority of Ireland or equivalent) in a relevant Physical Education/Sport Sciences discipline.\xc2\xa0 In line with Teaching Council and HEA protocol, when applying for a place on the Professional Master of Education programme, the PME applicant is required to make a formal declaration, using a\xc2\xa0Subject Declaration Form, that he/she:

    • Holds/will hold, by the date of commencement of the PME programme, a level 8 honours degree.
    • Has studied 90 ECTS credits in the relevant subject area(s) as part of their degree.
    • Has studied higher level degree content related to the subject area(s) in year 3 or 4 of their degree.
    • Has covered, as part of their degree, the mandatory topics/subjects as set out in the Teaching Council subject requirements which can be found at:\xc2\xa0http://www.teachingcouncil.ie/en/Publications/Registration/Documents/Curricular-Subject-Requirments-after-January-2017.pdf

    The Subject Declaration Form (which is available\xc2\xa0here) for each of the subjects you wish to teach must be fully completed and attached with your application to this programme.\xc2\xa0 We will be holding an information evening on how to complete the Subject Declaration Form for interested applicants at various times during the autumn (Further details to follow).
