Admission Requirements

Academic Requirements

Admissions for Criminal Justice, M.S.A complete application for Criminal Justice, M.S. necessitates the following university and program requirements be met.University Requirements
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution of higher education
  • Submission of all required admission materials, including:
  1. Completed graduate application for admission
  2. $30 nonrefundable application fee (unless you have previously applied to Grand Valley)
  3. Official copies of transcripts from all institutions of higher education previously attended. Transcripts must be sent from those institutions directly to the GVSU Admissions Office. NOTE: We do not require official transcripts from Grand Valley
  4. Test scores from the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), or IELTS (International English Language Testing System), or MELAB (Michigan English Language Assessment Battery) for applicants whose native language is not English. Only original score reports will be accepted. The following minimum scores are expected: TOEFL is 80, IELTS is 6.5, and MELAB is 77.
Program RequirementsIn addition to the University requirements of admission, all students seeking a degree for the MS in Criminal Justice must also meet the following requirements:
  1. Grade point average of 3.0 (B) from all undergraduate coursework or a 3.0 or higher calculated on the last 60 hours of course work
  2. Personal statement detailing academic preparation, background experiences, and professional, educational and career goals
  3. Recommendations: Three recommendations received. You can provide the emails of three references in your account at www.gvsu.edu/gradapply, and they will be sent a link to fill out for their online recommendation

English Proficiency: IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
