Foundations of Cyber

Aim

    This module aims:

    • To evaluate the context of the course and the wider programme of study,
    • To review and update core vocabulary and concepts required as a foundation for other elements of the course,
    • To develop academic skills,
    • To examine the operational aspects of cyber, information assurance and security.
Syllabus
    • Course structure and the cyber professional,
    • Cyber overview,
    • Enabling technologies and core terminology overview,
    • Cyber strategy overview,
    • Research methods, learning and study skills.
Intended learning outcomes

On successful completion of this module you will be able to:

  • Appraise key concepts and language of Cyber foundation knowledge, research and practice,
  • Critically evaluate published research,
  • Conduct independent research,
  • Write academically credible and professional documents.

Thesis

Aim
    To enable you to develop and demonstrate their expertise, independent learning abilities and critical appraisal skills to research and analyse a relevant Cyber Defence and Information Assurance (CDIA) or Cyber Space Operations (CSOps) issue, challenge or opportunity, written up as a clear and coherent 20,000 word (+/- 10%) evidence-based thesis.

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: Lower Second Class

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to Lower Second Class on the UK Honour scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on the UK Honour scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

Normally a 1st or 2nd class honours degree; 3rd class degree with three years relevant experience; pass degree with five years relevant experience; HND/C with seven years relevant experience. Exceptional candidates may be accepted with 10 years relevant experience, where relevant experience is gained in Information Security, Information Operations, Information risk or related role.

English Proficiency: IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
